Fees
In my practice, I treat privately insured patients, patients eligible for civil service healthcare assistance, and self-paying patients. This page provides information about psychotherapy fees in Freiburg, including the costs of individual and group therapy.
From October 2026, it will also be possible to bill statutory health insurance providers.
Due to the political announcement that services for patients with statutory health insurance may no longer be reimbursed in full if a practice treats “too many” statutory-insurance patients, I will only be able to offer individual therapy to patients with statutory health insurance on a limited basis.
For privately insured patients, patients eligible for civil service healthcare assistance, and self-paying patients, fees are calculated according to the German Fee Schedule for Psychotherapists, the GOP.

Private Health Insurance and Civil Service Healthcare Assistance
If you have private health insurance or are eligible for civil service healthcare assistance, the costs are generally reimbursed in full or in part by your insurer.
As the conditions vary depending on the insurance provider and individual tariff, I recommend contacting your insurer before beginning therapy to clarify the exact terms of reimbursement.
In particular, for more intensive treatment involving a higher frequency of sessions, the medically and therapeutically appropriate number of sessions may exceed the amount that some insurers or civil service assistance schemes reimburse in full.
Self-Paying Patients
You may also choose to pay for treatment privately. Fees are likewise calculated according to the German Fee Schedule for Psychotherapists, the GOP.
For many people, self-funded therapy is an attractive option because it can allow appointments to be arranged at shorter notice, provide greater flexibility regarding session frequency, and preserve complete confidentiality in relation to health insurance providers.
